Environmental Division Committee (Session
2013/14) – Ir IP Tat Yan (Past Chairman)
Everybody has their hopes and
dreams. To me, I never dreamed of being
an engineer when I was a child since mathematics is not my best subject. Without a clear target, I joined HK Electric
as a trainee technician in 1981, and started the part-time learning journey to equip
myself to be a professional engineer.
In the career path, I
switched from the field of control, automation and instrumentation to
environmental engineering for the power sector, which was of growing importance
in 1980’s. Unlike now, there were very
few environmental engineering subjects in tertiary institutions at that moment.
Self-motivation is my main driver to
learn new and challenging things along the path.
I joined HKIE Environmental
Division committee in 2006. Through
organization of the seminars and activities, particularly site visits for HKIE
members, my horizons on environmental engineering could be further widened. I am pleased to coach young members and pass on
my experience to next generation for a sustainable future. Please feel free to contact me.
