When we talk about
environmental engineering, most of the people will think of waste treatment
plants, sewage treatment plants, etc. In
fact, environmental engineering is a wide subject and always exists in our
daily life.I am Dr.
Raymond K.L. Chan and you can call me “Raymond” or “K.L.”. I have joined the Environmental Division as
Committee Member since 2017. My
background is more related to building services engineering and green
building. I was the President of ASHRAE
Hong Kong Chapter in 2008-09, President of HKAEE in 2014-18, Chairman of CIBSE
Hong Kong Region in 2019-20 and Director of HKGBC in 2014-19. Frankly speaking, I do not have too much experience
in large scale conventional environmental engineering projects. But I have to address many environmental
issues in my daily works, e.g. safety, noise & vibration control, air
quality control, carbon reduction and waste & energy management from a
building services engineer’s perspective. In past 20 years, I involved in many large-scale A
& A works for upgrading of E&M facilities of existing buildings.
I am currently
the Committee Member of “Committee on Environment” and “Construction Workers
Registration Board” of CIC. I am also
serving the BSL as a Director in 2015-2021.
I was the Member of the Sub-Group on Energy & Power Generation of
the Working Group on the Review of Air Quality Objectives (2016-18), Committee Member
of Pneumoconiosis Compensation Fund Board (2012-13) and Committee Member of
Prevention of Legionaires’ Disease Committee (2004-10).
I am pleased
to serve the Environmental Division and HKIE.
I joined Mechanical, BS, Energy and Environmental disciplines. Through
the participation in different professional services, I learn a lot and enjoy meeting
with new friends. Even though I am in
late fifties, I like skiing, golfing and travelling during my leisure
time. Hope I will have chance to chat
with you in near future.
