Speaker:

Dr. Vincent J. L. GAN

Dr. Vincent Gan is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He obtained dual Bachelor Degrees in Construction Engineering from China University of Geoscience and Architecture from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He received his MSc and PhD degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from HKUST.

Programme Highlights

The HKSAR government has targeted to reduce the building energy intensity by 40% in 2025 and the carbon intensity by 50-60% in 2020. Developing energy-efficient and low-carbon buildings is considered as an important direction to achieve the governmental goals for substantial energy conservation and carbon emission reduction. In this seminar, the speaker will share an integrated approach for designing energy-efficient and low-carbon green buildings in the high-rise urban environment, taking into consideration of operation energy and carbon from daily usage as well as embodied energy and carbon from construction materials. Case studies on application of the proposed approach for low carbon materials, structural form designs, and operation energy savings will be shared during the session.

Language

PowerPoint and presentation in English.
