Programme Highlights:-

Covey Associates, an Australian-based engineering consultancy, will provide an overview of their experience and expertise in the use of Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) to provide water treatment. Mr Kevin Covey, Director of Covey Associates, and Dr Christopher Walker, Environmental Manager of Covey Associates, will present on wetland-based approaches to both stormwater and wastewater treatment. There will be a particular focus on the use of floating wetlands to treat water, a relatively novel approach to treating runoff and wastewater. Covey Associates has pioneered the use of floating wetlands in urban developments and has been involved in world-leading research in partnership with the University of the Sunshine Coast for the past 8 years.

Speaker

Mr. Kevin Covey has more than 37 years extensive expertise in Urban Development, Civil, Structural, Hydraulic, Fire Engineering and Project Management. Mr. Covey leads a team of 45 staff who have become internationally and nationally renowned as a “one-stop-shop” approach.

Dr. Christopher Walker is the Environmental Manager at Covey Associates and has significant experience in the design and management (construction and operational phases) of constructed lakes, wetlands, floating wetlands, and bio-retention basins. Dr Walker is highly skilled in stormwater quality modelling, using software such as MUSIC (Model for Urban Stormwater Improvement conceptualisation), Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) development and implementation, designing water quality monitoring programs and ensuring site specific environmental objectives are consistently achieved. Dr. Walker is also a recognised world expert on the use of floating wetlands to treat runoff.
