Highlights:-
The talk will give an overview of
the major environmental challenges facing Hong Kong and the opportunities such
challenges open up. It will also cover the newly established
Environmental Academy in the Environmental Protection Department and how this
may contribute to advancing environmental professionalism in Hong Kong and the
Greater Bay Area.
Speaker
Ir Elvis Au is the
Deputy Director of the Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region Government. He has B.Sc degree in Civil Engineering
(major in environmental engineering) and M.Sc degree in Urban Planning with
Distinction from University of Hong Kong as well as Master of Science (Finance)
with Merit from University of London. He served as the President and Immediate
Past President of International Association for Impact Assessment from 2001 to
2003. He was the chairman of the
Environmental Division of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers from 2016 to 2017
and was the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental
Professionals from 2016 to 2018. He has worked in environmental policy and
legislation including the Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance, strategic
planning, noise policy, cross-boundary environmental cooperation, corporate
environmental management, building energy legislation and policy, water quality
and sewerage, nature conservation policy, and waste management and facility
planning including the first Organic Resource Recovery Centre and the first
Integrated Waste Management Facility.
Since 2017, he has been in charge of environmental enforcement,
environmental assessment and noise, water quality and sewerage and EPD’s
headquarter functions.
