Particulate Matter (PM) is the
major component of outdoor air pollution, which causes premature mortality on a
global scale. The speaker is going to share his findings related to the
captioned title with our members .

Speaker
Professor Chan Chak-keung is
currently Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment and Dean of the School of
Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong. He obtained BSc in
Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and PhD in Chemical
Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. His research focuses
on atmospheric particulate matter with emphasis on atmospheric chemistry and
its role in air pollution. He received
the Haagen Smit Award of Atmospheric Environment in 2015, Second Prize of the
State Natural Science Award in 2010, and First Prize of the Natural Science
Award in 2007. He was the first winner of the Asian Young Aerosol Scientists
Award. He has been an Editor-in-Chief of Atmospheric Environment since 2008 and
is the first scholar outside the U.S. and Europe to hold such position for the
Journal in its history of 50 years. He has published over 170 papers with over
9000 SCOPUS citations and an h-index of 48 to date. According to the Shanghai Ranking’s Global
Ranking of Academic Subjects 2016 by Elsevier, he is one of the most cited
researchers in the area of environmental science and engineering.
