Wastewater treatment plants can also be utilized as a source of renewable and green energy. A significant part of the energy to run a treatment plant can be recovered from itself. This presentation will focus on a review of various types of renewable energy sources and their role in maintaining sustainable growth of the society. All the currently practiced technologies will be reviewed, but the major focus will be on the utilization of wastes as the sources of renewable energy. Detailed discussions on the principles of production of biological fuels and their current status of development and usage will be presented along with actual examples and case studies.
