EcoTech Seminar on Noise & Vibration Control in Commercial and Residential Buildings

Date, time & venue

2025-04-25;6:30-8:00pm;Paul Y Room – 10/F

Mode: Physical attendance + online via zoom
Venue: HKIE Paul Y Room at 10/F
Organiser: HKIE Environmental Division

Programme Highlights:
Good acoustic environment is fundamental to quality of life. Noise problems include outdoor noise
propagation, such as road traffic and internal sound transmission, such as pump noise and footsteps
impact noise. Noise & vibration control design is to reduce the unwanted sound by means of
increasing airborne sound attenuation, structure-borne sound reduction, sound absorption, damping
and vibration isolation. Many noise & vibration problems arise from a combination of incorrect design & prediction, use of wrong materials, poor workmanship and lack of proven acoustic test reports for the equipment, acoustic products and systems being employed in the projects. Besides the design
work, acoustic consultant is responsible to specify the correct types of testing required. The
presentation will give insight how important is the acoustic design and testing for wellbeing.

Guest Speaker:
Ir Iu King Kwong, RPE, CEng, MHKIE, MCIBSE, FHKIOA
Ir K K Iu started the involvement in acoustic and environmental projects in Hong Kong since 1982. He
has been participating in extensive design and research works relating to environmental noise
propagation and mitigation measures to solve noise nuisances, aimed at creating a healthy and
harmonious society. He is currently the Managing Director of Westwood Hong & Associates Ltd. and
Director of Wilson Ho & Associates Ltd. to oversee daily operations and technical matters of these
two acoustic consultancy companies.
