Technical Seminar: Polar Research in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Researchers in the higher Arctic

Programme Highlights:

With the establishment of the Polar Research Institute of Hong Kong (PRIHK), local scientists and engineers are able to have a convenient platform conducting their research and development projects relevant to polar phenomena and global climate changes. The "Bauhinia Station", which is located in Longyearbyen of Norwegian Svalbard Isles, has been established since September 2018 and equipped with fundamental facilities for physical, biological and environmental research. Institutions and individuals who are interested to collaborate with the PRIHK are invited to submit their proposals freely so that innovation and scientific significance of polar regions can be further promoted in Hong Kong

Recent visit of the higher arctic regions by Prof. K C. Ho and his team revealed that research and development opportunities studies, material and energy sciences, geochemistry, coastal and glacial ecology, physical oceanography, climatology and applied earth science have been increasingly important. Moreover, after the disclosure of the White Paper in Arctic by the central government, there are new opportunities for exploring especially those relevant to town planning, housing, tourism, mining of natural resources, new and renewable energies, etc.
