Organised by EVD and AMC
Programme Highlights:
Polar regions are critical to
weather, oceanic currents and global ecological balance. Due to their
significance to human society, polar regions are of special research interest
as well as challenging value to explorers, scientists, climatologists,
environmentalists and engineers. Hong Kong researchers have been taking
part in surveys and expedition for the Higher Arctic and Antarctica since the
early 1990s. Specifically, previous research by the Hong Kong team focused on
ecology, environmental science and global climate changes with some refereed papers
published in international journals and conferencing proceedings. We look
forward to further contributions by Hong Kong engineers in view that polar
regions belonged to the whole world with numerous innovative areas that are
inspiring for practical application particularly engineering development in
modern society. The newly established Polar Research Institute of Hong Kong
shares its mission to form a common platform for researchers in any science,
technology and engineering aspect to conduct research, individually or of joint
efforts with Mainland China and international experts, at Svalbard Isles (78-80
degree N) for the sustainability of our tiny Earth.
