Technical Seminar: “Construction Noise Control: Win-Win Stories for Contractors and the Community”

Date, time & venue

2018-03-09;6:30pm - 8:00pm;Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room – 9/F

Programme Highlight

As construction activities require construction plants to be relocated from one place to another very frequently, using permanent noise barriers is not practical in mitigating construction noise.

Since the inception in 2013/2014, Retractable Noise Barriers (RNB) provides a win-win solution for contractors and the community in reducing construction noise. RNB does not require a concrete foundation and can be installed by workers up to 7m high without the use of plant. An automatic wind-load relieving mechanism is incorporated to let the panels open automatically and relieve excessive wind load on the barriers during occasional gusts. An automatic panel return mechanism enables the panels to return to original position once the gusty winds have passed. In the past two years, RNB has been used at more than 50 construction sites in Hong Kong. The seminar is to discuss recent developments in the RNB and share a few win-win stories where RNB assisted contractors in reducing construction noise and providing benefit to the community.
