Programme Highlights
The Smart Grid Experience Centre was newly established by CLP Power in 2011 to communicate with stakeholders on the applications and benefits of smart grid. The interactive demonstrations and models in the centre will give the participants better understanding on various aspects of the smart grid such as renewable energy, smart transmission and distribution systems, smart home, smart building and EV charging infrastructure through hands-on experience of the advanced devices. The Energy Efficiency Exhibition Centre displays the latest energy efficient technologies for the commercial and industrial sectors to promote energy efficient application to customers and general public. Through the advanced audio-visual equipment and exhibits, the participants can learn about the actual applications and benefits of these technologies and how these technologies can help them save energy and become an environmental leader.

Technical Visit to CLP Energy Efficiency Centre and Smart Grid Experience Centre

A technical visit to CLP Energy Efficiency Centre and Smart Grid Experience Centre was organized on 14 January 2012. The both centres are located at CLP Shamshuipo Office. The Energy Efficiency Exhibition Centre (EEEC) is an exhibition area displaying the latest energy efficient technologies for the commercial and industrial sectors. From restaurant operators looking for a switch to an all-electric commercial kitchen to property developers, factory owners and building architects planning to adopt more energy efficient concept or systems, the EEEC displays energy efficient equipment and provides information on suppliers. Representative from CLP also shared with us three successful examples such as chicken farm, industrial sector and restaurant in reducing the electricity consumption by 30 percent with the help “Green Plus” Program. After the talks, we were led to visit the exhibition centre. The speaker demonstrated how efficient use of clean electricity energy for cooking; different kinds of lighting products for energy saving, air conditionings and heat pump equipment were also compared.
Then we visited the Smart Grid Experience Centre, starting with a video to introduce CLP Power’s strategic directions on smart grid development encompassing power grid modernisation, information & communication technology for customers and power network data exchange, enhanced interaction with customers and integration with renewable energies. In the Renewable Energy Zone, the speaker also introduced a number of renewable energy and what CLP has carried out in achieving their commitment to reducing carbon emission, In the T&D Zone, the speaker explained different initiatives in smart grid (e.g. digital substation & self-healing functions in overhead power lines). He also invited us to experience how it is easy to operate an electricity vehicle charging station in the Green and Smart Living zone, and to get acquainted with smart home control equipment inside the Enabling Technologies zone.
Finally, on behalf of the Environmental Division and participants, we sincerely thank CLP to give us a valuable visit; we also thank their representatives, Mr Andrew Lo and Mr. Raymond Sze, for their kind briefing and took us for the visit.
