Highlights:
“Green
Burial” is a way to handle human ashes of the deceased in a more environmental
friendly and sustainable manner. In recent
years, it is observed to become more prevalent than ever in many cities or countries. In the global world, we are facing the
problem of increasing death rate with scarce land resource. In Hong Kong,
cremation being the most common method of handling bodies of the deceased, leads
to an ever-increasing demand for columbarium facilities.
To
address the challenges, the Government has been pursuing a three-pronged
strategy, which includes (a) increasing the supply of public niches; (b)
promoting the sustainable development of the private columbaria sector through
implementing a regulatory framework; and (c) promoting green burial.
The
webinar will mainly focus on the green burial services, the strategy adopted
and the environmentally friendly design on those related facilities, venues in the
Hong Kong and the approach to increase public
awareness to adopt green burial.
