Technical Seminar / Webinar: Nurturing self-compassion for wellness using Music and Imagery

Programme Highlight
In this special time of epidemic, many people experience various degree of stresses and adaptations. These adjustments may be difficult for some people, who may not know how to handle these inner disturbances in a “good” manageable way.  Among all music therapy approaches, “FMI or GIM” is a music psychotherapy, excellent for promoting desired well-being for oneself and motivation for a change.   This lecture will raise one’s awareness about self-compassion and wellness, list a variation of this approach in music therapy with its benefits, and outline some positive outcomes from these practices.

Speaker
Miss Angela Shum, Certified Baby Massage Instructor & Music Therapist of Abundant Wellness 樂康源; RN, MT-BC, MTA, FAMI, HPMT

The speaker graduated from the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) for her BScN degree. She practiced as a registered nurse for more than 10 years, working in health care setting across different cities and countries, such as Hong Kong, Canada and USA. Her nursing clinical experience has been extensive in various settings, including hospitals, nursing home and university.

After she earned her master degree in expressive therapy at Lesley University (Cambridge, MA, USA), she worked as a music / rehabilitation therapist at the Provincial and State hospitals in both Canada and USA respectively.  When she returned to Hong Kong, she resumed working as a nurse at ICAPT in Tung Wah Group of Hospitals for a few years. Then, she became self-employed to practice music therapy.  Her expertise includes Focused Music Imagery (FMI), Music Breathing (MB), Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) & Focusing Oriented Expressive Arts (FOAT).  Her present passion is to promote mental wellness in the health care setting and other organizations.  Her recent published research article is on Use of GIM to nurture self-compassion in a mental health nurse: A case study
