Background
Hong Kong has extensively urbanized
low-lying land reclamations threatened by short-term typhoon-induced storm
surges and long-term future sea-level rise. It is therefore important to study
past records in order to obtain information on future risks.
This presentation will examine local
evidence for sea-level changes dating back to about 0.5 million years including
tide gauge records and satellite remote sensing measurements. Uncertainties on
future sea-level rise projections will be highlighted.
