Government has recently announced a public consultation on building a Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) for beverage packaging in Hong Kong. The deadline for comments is 21 May 2021.

What are the key choices in designing a scheme that is right for Hong Kong: What should the return value be? Which packaging to include? Where to return it? Who should be responsible for the scheme?

This coalition of beverage manufacturers and importers, waste handlers and recyclers, institutions, retailers and NGOs, seeks to reduce 70-90% of beverage packaging going to waste by 2025 with its initiative Drink Without Waste.
